Graphite on paper and transparent nylon string screen
My work starts from a traditional figurative conception and then problematizes the representation through various aesthetic strategies. Taking this into consideration, it could be said that all my production is traversed by the tension between tradition and the search of new means, of rehearsals of formal resolutions to issues which pierce the history of Art.
In this work a transparent nylon thread screen is placed one centimeter from the surface of paper. Similar to screen noise, this curtain of tight lines produces a scan lines effect between the viewer and the bodies, which renders the image diffuse.
The concept of “interference” is useful for describing the conceptual support of my work. An interference can be understood as an alteration that generates a faulty image, a weak signal that fails to manifest itself completely, causing an interruption. Considering interference as a concept-metaphor, I seek to alter the total perception of the image
I conceive interferences as a contradiction where the image is simultaneously revealed and concealed from a distant plane. It creates a spatial and temporal suspension for the bodies that inhabit my works to exist without being fully revealed. These almost ghostly figuresappear in a strange atmosphere between here and beyond, between exhibition and retreat, floating across an intermediate state similar to dreaming, the state of trance or even death.
